Justice for Marilyn & Megan Redmond : Ending Workplace Discrimination and Union Neglect
Setting a historic precedent by re-evaluating their response to Megan’s complaints and implementing new training and policies to ensure that members with disabilities are adequately supported.
Why is this important?
Marilyn and Megan’s story is not just a personal fight; it’s a reflection of a much larger issue affecting countless workers across British Columbia and beyond.
Their experience highlights how individuals with disabilities are too often left unsupported by the very institutions meant to protect them. This isn’t just about one case—it’s about ensuring that workplaces and unions uphold the rights and dignity of every worker, especially those who are vulnerable to discrimination.

Why should you care?
Imagine dedicating yourself to a job you’re passionate about, only to be mocked, dismissed, or abandoned when you ask for basic support. Megan wanted to make a difference, yet her workplace and union failed to provide the accommodations she needed for her ADHD and brain injury. Instead of finding an advocate in her union, she encountered more neglect and hostility, leaving her isolated and voiceless.
Workplace discrimination affects us all. No one should have to face the barriers Megan did, especially in roles that serve the community. When we allow cases like this to go unchallenged, we send a message that it’s acceptable to ignore and mistreat workers with disabilities. But together, we can change this narrative and push for accountability.
What’s at stake?
- Workers' Rights: This campaign is about holding employers and unions accountable for supporting workers with disabilities, as required by law. If we don’t act, more workers will continue to face unnecessary hardships.
- Building Inclusive Workplaces: Everyone deserves to work in an environment where they are respected and given the tools to succeed. Megan’s case shows the urgent need to build inclusive workplaces that respect diversity and the contributions of all workers.
- Raising Awareness and Changing Policies: By joining this campaign, you’re helping to create a movement for fairer treatment of all workers and pushing for policies that protect against discrimination, mobbing, and union neglect.
In Megan’s words, “If employers just took the time to support their employees, they’d see how loyal and hardworking they could be.” By standing with her, we’re sending a powerful message that workplace discrimination will not be tolerated—and that we’re committed to creating a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
