Make flood control Salmon Friendly

The City of Pitt Meadows has plans to upgrade the Kennedy, Fenton and McKechnie pump stations over the next few years. When spending money on flood infrastructure which will be in place for the next 50 years I strongly support these pumps being upgraded to stations that allow safe fish passage. This will be money well spent…..this will provide access to over 250 km of habitat currently impacted by pump stations and flood gates.
I support the calls made by Katzie First Nation for fish-friendly pumps and self-regulating flood gates as one in a series of solutions that can be made to improve access and quality of habitat not only for Fraser River salmon but all freshwater fish, mammals, amphibians and birds that use these important waterways.

Why is this important?

Salmon are dying a death of a thousand cuts. Fish friendly infrastructure investments will allow desperately needed healthy habitat to return. These improvements will provide access to over 250 km of habitat currently impacted by pump stations and flood gates.

How it will be delivered

When I reach 100 I will email it to the Mayor and Council and post on the City of Pitt Meadows Facebook page.
