Make every vote count by instituting a proportional representation system by 2019.

We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada resident in the Province of Ontario, and electors in the federal ridings of Simcoe North and Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte, draw the attention of the House to the following:
THAT
• our current First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system is flawed; half of our votes are wasted and have no effect on our representation in Ottawa, and
• a Preferential Ballot (PB) system is also flawed (except in municipal elections where there are no political parties); it does not make every vote count.
THEREFORE your petitioners call upon Parliament to institute a Proportional Representation voting system in time for the 2019 federal election – such a system to allocate seats so that the proportion of seats that each party has in Parliament corresponds to the proportion of votes it receives in the election."

Why is this important?

Currently, votes cast in our federal elections do not match the seats parties gain in Parliament. Consequently, we cannot ensure fair representation.
We can and should reform our electoral system to make our democracy better for all Canadians.
