Ban Water Balloons in Ontario Parks

Minister, everybody loves summer fun and there's few places better for that in Ontario than our Provincial Parks. But each summer thousands and thousands of tiny plastic pieces of litter are left behind on our beaches and in our campgrounds from water balloons, which will never degrade, and forever spoil the ecological integrity of our Parks. Please Minister, ban water balloons in Ontario's Provincial Parks. If we can ban alcohol in the Parks for a weekend, if we can ban fires when these are a danger, then surely we can ban an activity that forever spoils our common backyard.

Why is this important?

In the space of five weeks and between two people we've collected nearly a pound of plastic water balloon pieces in only one Provincial Park. Thousands and thousands more pieces need to be taken out of the environment. We've been informed by a Park official that in some Provincial Parks visitor programming still includes water balloons. Ecological integrity is a priority for Ontario Parks. The time to build a Waste Free Ontario starts now. Small deliberate actions have a direct effect on the quality of life for all.
