BC FERRIES: DO NOT CUT THE HORSESHOE BAY TO NANAIMO FERRY ROUTE
Mike Corrigan and Todd Stone,
We demand that BC Ferries and the Government of BC maintain the ferry service between Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay. We rely on this service to do business, travel and see our families.
We demand that BC Ferries and the Government of BC maintain the ferry service between Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay. We rely on this service to do business, travel and see our families.
Why is this important?
A recently released report by BC Ferries outlines possible cuts to BC Ferries services. One of the proposed cuts is the ferry service from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay. The route is a public service used by thousands and thousands of BC residents and tourists, and it's profitable for the crown corporation [1].
Please sign this urgent petition to stop the plans to cut this service before it is too late. This plan is still being considered by the BC Ferries and is by no means a done deal [2]. If enough of us express our opposition to this move, we can stop this plan in its track. This plan would prove damaging to the province and highly unpopular for BC Ferries and the BC government.
Cutting the Hoeseshoe Bay to Nanaimo route would:
- Dramatically increase travel time for ferry users travelling between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland
- Increase congestion in other ferry terminals and their surrounding areas
- Cost the economy well paying jobs that are sorely needed by our communities
If our province is to thrive we need to invest in well paying jobs and make it easier for people to travel affordably. The move to cut the ferry service between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo would take us in the wrong direction.
