Homes for All - Toronto Canvassing Event

The housing crisis is hitting people in Canada hard. On the campaign trail, Carney promised to tackle housing unaffordability by creating an entity called Build Canada Homes (BCH) — a new Crown Corporation that would “act as a developer to build affordable housing at scale.” 

If we want to tackle the housing crisis, we need to start by demanding BCH’s mandate expand to ensure affordability is the #1 priority  and that people, not corporate developers, are the first to benefit.

On Sunday, August 24th, between 2-4 pm, we will be canvassing in Toronto to this end — informing the public about the BCH and gathering petition signatures to submit to the federal government with a firm demand that they focus on affordability.

This canvassing event will be held at Broadview subway station, on the street outside the wheelchair accessible subway entrance (near the Gateway on the Go). We will meet at 2pm outside the station entrance. This is a wheelchair accessible event.

During the event, we will break off into pairs, with one volunteer distributing flyers and the other gathering signatures. Canvassing materials and flyers will be provided on site. Depending on the number of participants, some pairs may end up canvassing just south of Broadview station at Riverdale park.

In case of inclement weather, we will meet inside Broadview station by the entrance and then move to the Tim Horton's on the SE corner of Danforth & Broadview. 

At 4pm, we will regroup at the station to collect our petitions and debrief the day.

- Accessible & gender neutral washroom located at the Tim Horton's on SE corner of Danforth & Broadview (91 Danforth Avenue)
-  As this is primarily an outdoor event, please mind the weather forecast and dress accordingly
- Masks are encouraged and organizers will have extras if desired
