Homes for All - Draw the Line, Vancouver!

The housing crisis is hitting people in Canada hard. On the campaign trail, Carney promised to tackle housing unaffordability by creating an entity called Build Canada Homes (BCH) — a new Crown Corporation that would “act as a developer to build affordable housing at scale.”

If we want to tackle the housing crisis, we need to start by demanding BCH’s mandate expand to ensure affordability is the #1 priority — and that people, not corporate developers, are the first to benefit.

On September 20th, we will be participating in the Draw the Line march in Vancouver. This march represents a coalition of many organizations and communities coming together to demand that Canada stand up for Indigenous rights, labour equity, climate action, migrant and economic justice, and peace! Our housing advocacy is aligned with the calls for economic justice.
You can register for the march here.

We will meet up beforehand by the fountain outside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (630 Hamilton St) around 1 PM to do a street canvas while people gather. Draw the Line will start at 2 p.m., across the street at the Vancouver Public Library Central, 300 W Georgia St. If you’re unable to march, meet at 4 pm at Creekside Park, 1455 Quebec Street, at the end of the march. The event is expected to end at around 6-7 pm.

We will provide clipboards, pens, petitions and flyers. It looks like rain is a possibility, so dress accordingly and wear appropriate footwear if you intend to march. Also, bring masks and sanitizer if you wish.

The nearest transit stop to our meetup location is Stadium-Chinatown Skytrain Station, about a 5-minute walk away. Parking at the library is $7.80/hour.

If you go directly to Creekside Park, the nearest transit station is Main Street-Science World, about a 4-minute walk. Parking is available at $9/2 hours and is adjacent to the park.

The event is wheelchair accessible, including the march if people are up for it.
Washrooms are available at the library, but the closest washrooms at Creekside Park are 320 metres from the Creekside Park playground at Main and Terminal, outside the Main Street-Science World Skytrain Station. In both locations, accessible and gender inclusive washrooms are available.

Service animals are welcome and may be present at the event.
This event will be fragrance-free, so please refrain from wearing or using scented products.
